SeaOra's name change to Adovia
SeaOra has to change only the name and logo – the packaging design remains exactly the same and of course the great product formulas were completely untouched.
They were recently faced with a difficult legal challenge by Sephora – a billion dollar company, and are forced to change the name of their line. The SeaOra name was filed and received a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office but Sephora, a French company owned by Louis Vuitton/Moet/Hennessy, said that they must change the name of their line – SeaOra, because it resembled their name too closely. It became apparent that even though SeaOra are in the right – Sephora have enough money to drag this out and basically put SeaOra out of business due to the high cost of legal fees.
The decision was clear – either to continue to fight them OR have to close SeaOra's doors without winning and let down all their clients and customers who love their products OR change the name of the line, while keeping everything else the same. SeaOra decided the second option, which was the wisest step to take, though as hard as it was. So, after an extensive search for a name, they chose Adovia and have full rights and is not close to any name in the skin care industry. Remember, same great products, just a new name - ADOVIA!
